Pastor Paulette Sherwood is a native of Carbondale, IL where she received her Bachelors and Master Degrees from Southern Illinois University. She is a certified teacher and counselor and has taught many ages from pre-school to the university level. She loves teaching and uses her skills and training to atrengthen the people of God. She is a sought after teacher and powerful preacher of the gospel as well as a wise and discerning counselor. Pastor Paulette’s preaching is accompanied by a precise prophetic edge.
Pastor Sherwood began her Christian walk in Atlanta, GA in 1978 with the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World (PAW) where she met her future pastor, Woodrow Walker and his wife. Paulette received her call to the ministry shortly thereafter and was ordained in 1981 as a minister of the Gospel and later ordained as an Elder. She continued her work with Abundant Life Church for fifteen years, and worked faithfully as a counselor, teacher, and administrator.
Paulette loves to share her testimony of how, as a divorcee and single parent, the Lord provided for and protected her and her two children. During this eighteen- year period in her life, she experienced many personal and intimate encounters with the God. She shares how the Lord manifested many miracles on her behalf during this season of testing and tribulation and states how her church family played a major role in parenting her children and living successfully single. Because of this she has a special sensitivity, understanding and compassion for single parents.
In 1994 she moved to California to pursue a Masters of Divinity and a Doctorate in Marriage and Family Therapy at Fuller Theological Seminary. She served Bishop Clarence McClendon as Director of Counseling during her tenure there.
In 1996, at the age of 50, Paulette returned to Atlanta where she married David Sherwood, and they served as Elders with Bishop Eddie Long at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church for seven years. In late 2002, they accepted the Pastoral Call, and with the blessing and acknowledgement of Bishop Long, moved to Carbondale, IL. to establish New Birth Kingdom Church International. Paulette serves alongside her husband as the Executive Pastor of New Birth. .
Pastor Paulette presently feels a strong call to women and is mentoring and training women to raise up the next generation of women. “I believe that the true message of the Kingdom will restore the freedom, power, and joy that so many women in the Body of Christ have lost because of error in teaching about their role in ministry.” Pastor P, as many call her, loves young people and say they keep her energized. “Young people today are not interested in religious activity, but are looking for something of substance. They want a real experience and relationship with God and will not accept dead traditions that have been made by man. They are hungry and if we, by example and word, show them the true Christ, they will follow.”
